WHY USE A BOLT IN SPRAG

THE ONE WAY SPRAG or OVERRUNNING CLUTCH RACE OUTER RACE  IS PRESSED INTO THE REAR OF THE MAIN CASING BY THE FACTORY. BY PRESSING IT IN, IT CUTS ITS OWN SPLINES INTO THE ALUMINIUM. A SMALL ALLEN SET SCREW IS ALSO USED THE OUTER RACE IN PLACE. IN ADDITION THE MAIN CASING IS STAKED OVER THE SPLINES IN 12 PLACES AROUND THE  CIRCUMFERENCE.

THERE IS NOT A LOT HOLDING THE OUTER RACE IN POSITION

IF ALL THIS LOCATION FAILS, THE FRONT CLUTCH DRUM WILL SPIN UP TO 2.2 (REVERSE GEAR RATIO) TIMES THE SPEED OF INPUT SHAFT.

SO, IF THE INPUT SHAFT IS DOING 6000 RPM, THE FRONT DRUM WILL SPIN TO 13200 RPM.

THE FRONT DRUM IS CONSTRUCTED OF POWDERED IRON. THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO EXPLODE AT 11500 RPM

ALL HIGH PERFORMANCE PARTS MANUFACTURERS REGARD ANY SAFETY BLANKET or SHIELD AS INCAPABLE OF RETAINING THE RESULTANT EXPLOSION.
